What Is NIJ?
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research and standards arm of the U.S. Department of Justice. NIJ certification means a product has been independently lab-tested and verified to stop specific calibers at specific velocities. Without it, no law enforcement agency can legally procure body armor under federal procurement guidelines.

Why All Levels?
Most body armor manufacturers certify to a single level. We don't. Every ShieldForm suit is designed and tested to meet NIJ standards at every level — because the threats our customers face don't come with a warning label.
The Certification Process
Three stages. Zero shortcuts.
Lab Submission
Ballistic panel samples are submitted to an NIJ-accredited independent testing laboratory. ShieldForm has no involvement in selecting the lab or scheduling tests.
Independent Testing
Panels are tested at each protection level under controlled conditions. No manufacturer representatives are present during testing. Results stand on their own.
Certification & Listing
On passing, ShieldForm is listed on the NIJ Compliant Products List (CPL) — the official federal reference used by law enforcement agencies for procurement.
Timeline: 12–18 months from submission. We're building the right way, not the fast way.
Why It Matters for Procurement
Federal law enforcement agencies are required to purchase only NIJ-certified body armor. State and local agencies follow the same standard for federally-funded purchases.
Without certification, a vendor can't get on the GSA Schedule or qualify for most public safety grant programs.
